Research Intent on exploring our world and finding meaning, I am an experienced researcher in the social sciences, policy, world affairs and critical theory. My research includes an honours thesis in Political Science (Spirit Possession: Reading Resistance Through Critical Anthropology, 2004, which received the department's highest mark) and professional research assistance for other authors. Research interests include:

Research papers include: Spirit Possession: Reading Resistance Through Critical Anthropology, 2004 A 62-page study of Indigenous spirit possession rituals as a response to colonization, and the political violence associated with Western knowledge. Vampire Dreams: Violence and Development in Malawi, 2004 After a series of attacks on aid workers and missionaries is Malawi, Africa, questions remain about the role of Western influence and violence in current ideas of development. Full of Hopes, Full of Holes: Canada's Refugee Policy in Flux, 2004 An overview of changes to the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), arguing that Canada must earn the trust and partnership of civil society in order to ensure its refugee policies are welcoming, safe and fair. A Discourse Analysis of Human Rights in Canada, 2003 How do differering ideas of human rights conflict globally, in light of diverse cultural approaches? Research included interviews with the Secretary-General of Amnesty International (Canada) and other staff members. The Role of NGOs in the United Nations System, 1999 How much influence do NGOs (non governmental organizations) have within the UN? This paper provides an overview of perspectives, information and new paradigms for understanding global civil society. |
